We are happy to present to you CD Opus 1 - the result of shared musical interests and cooperation of two young exelent soloists - violinist Michał Buczkowski and guitarist Aleksander Wilgos. This album is a consequence of their passion and exploration, the joy of discovering new sounds and colours which sound so extraordinary in the interaction of the violin and the guitar.
Andaluza and Oriental come from 12 Spanish Dances by Enrique Granados for the piano. These works, inspired by traditional Spanish music, are not actually dances, but stylizations of dances. Elements of folklore are the canvas on which distinctive but stylistically independent songs were created. Most of the compositions on the album, in a similar manner, draw from folk music originating in the country of the composer: Kurpian Song by Karol Szymanowski – from Polish music, Duos by Bela Bartok – from Hungarian music, and Suite by Maximo Diego Pujol – from Argentinian music. Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt stands out stylistically, it belongs to the stream of minimal music, the song is composed using very limited musical material and a minimum of composer’s tools.
Majority of the tracks on the album are compositions, which weren’t even originally written for the violin and the guitar. Some of them, like Szymanowski’s Kurpian Song and Bartok’s Duos, were recorded for the first time in such an instrumental composition, so they are a world premiere!
