To say that Sikorski’s music offers food for thought is an understatement. More important is the fact that it obliges us to feel, react, vibrate. In the case of the repertoire which is presented here, it introduces us to the very essence of the piano. Sikorski’s understanding of the instrument and its capabilities is of the highest quality. The sounds pierce us throughout. Only a composer who existed entirely in this sound sphere could treat the progression of the sound’s harmony, its repetition, its crescendo and decrescendo and its silence so convincingly. The tension in Sikorski’s music follows from the ability and will to both reveal and hide emotions with one and the same pen stroke. His music’s essence consists in expressed passion, restrained passion, beauty, intensity, loneliness, richness of sound and scarcity.
